Resumo
The work presents methodological research for the analysis of signal integrity
parameters in USB 3.0 buses using Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) technique, aiming at
the feasibility of pre-compliance analysis of products in the development phase that contain this
standard type of communication. Initially, there is research on the specifications of USB 3.0
and USB Type-C cable to categorize the board to be tested (which can be a host, a peripheral
device, a hub, or an interconnection), resulting in the identification of compliance equipment
according to the USB-IF standard. Subsequently, market research evaluates the costs of the
equipment, seeking more affordable alternatives, with a special emphasis on TDR. Preliminary
tests are conducted with the TDR in the laboratory, calibrating it, configuring other instruments
such as the oscilloscope, and identifying the necessary accessories for the final tests. The tests
are carried out following the proposed methodology, documenting each step, from the
characterization of the Device under Test (DUT) to the analysis of the obtained results. The
tests encompass the analysis of the chosen fixture, data collection with the DUT and an
equivalent device, aiming for comparison. The main results obtained include the analysis of
impedance profile and the estimation of the frequency band that defines the DUT as a non
compliant USB 3.0 device, thus validating the proposed pre-compliance testing methodology.
Finally, the conclusions address the collected data, the performance of the proposed
methodology, and suggestions for improving result accuracy.
