Resumo
Easy acess to drug purchase and self-medication are factors rooted in Brazilian customs, such
factors increase the incorrect disposal the medicaments in the environment consequently, drugs
such as acetaminophen are found in natural system. With the focus of degrading
acetaminophen. Heterogeneous photocatalysis has been an efficient means study to removed.
Within this problematic this work has objective the study of acetaminophen degradation by
heterogeneous photocatalysis using the titanium dioxide catalyst. This work studied of the
influence of time, pH and the presence catalyst on conversion of the drug. In experimental
design was studied: time the 1 and 2h, pH 5 and 9 and for the catalyst observed drug conversion
with the same without. The study was carried out through an experiment in a photocatalytic
batch reactor, where the solution containing the drug was placed in a 1 L volume vat and the
placed in a parallelepiped shaped reactor 27 x 54,8 x 20 cm and a 36 W bulb couple inside the
reactor. In all, 16 were performed, as a duplicate was required, and the system response was to
observe the conversion of drug. By analyzing the Pareto diagram, the variables studied were
not significant for the system response, however the results show that even in low amounts it
was possible to degrade the drug. However the results show that even in low amounts drug
degradation possible. The highest degradation was 17,42%, obtained pH = 9, the time of 2 hrs
and without the catalyst, but it was observed that the solution that had catalyst had degradation
in more than one assay. It was concluded that the proposed model was not significant for this
process, but it was possible observe the degradation of acetaminophen by effects of time and
pH.
