Resumo

In the industrial sector, distillation is one of the most widely used techniques for separating the chemical constituents of a liquid mixture. Its application ranges from petrochemicals, biofuels to related areas of the chemical industry in general. Currently in the Laboratory of Chemical Engineering of the Superior School of Technology of the State University of Amazonas, there is a pilot scale distillation plant that operates both in batch and continuous, and can be distilled mixtures submitted to atmospheric pressure or vacuum. For the development of the work, an experimental design was applied 23 considering operating variables, the operating pressure, the power supplied to the boiler and the reflux rate. With the experimental design it was possible to observe that for the distillate composition the best response was 0.4714 and for the amount of distillate the best value was 0.0022 kmol.h-1 for the best residue composition value was 0.0580 and for the amount of residue the best response was 0.0078 kmol.h-1 . The present study also analyzed the effect of operating pressure on continuous distillation and also allowed to obtain the best combination of factors that maximize the effects of the composition and the amount of distillate and at the same time minimize the effects of the composition and the amount of residue.
