Resumo
This paper presents the design of a geared traction driven freight elevator of 1000kg
capacity to be installed inside an industrial building for cargo movement between the ground
floor and a mezzanine according to client’s requirements based on a real descriptive
memorandum from a request. A brief exposition about lifting and transporting machines,
strength of materials, electric motors and related design codes.
Cabin, counter-weight, steel ropes, sheaves, pulleys, traction machine, guide rails and
safety devices were designed following the NBR14712:2013 and its related codes. Together
with the elevator design an independent steel structure was also designed to support the whole
machine’s weight and enclose the elevator’s pit. The project’s cost was also estimated for both.
Finite element analysis (FEA) was used to verify the cabin, counter-weight and independent
structure and validate the designs.
