The evolution of vessel models, allied to the computational advance, allows ship design
problems to be solved in a more efficient and automated way with the aid of computer
systems. It should therefore be emphasized the importance of developing parametric models
after defining the main particulars of the vessel, so that it is possible to properly design and
define the main parameters of the vessel, in favor of performing simulations or verifications
faithful to the real aspects, thus enabling an optimization of the project. In this way, the use of
software and computational methods in the development of projects in naval engineering
allows greater speed, versatility and minimization of errors during the processes. However, it
is worth mentioning that such solutions do not need to be limited only to the hull of the vessel,
but can also be applied to the design process as a whole and unify different stages and
systems, in order to minimize possible inconsistencies. The present work performs the
application of the BIM methodology (Building Information Modeling) in the development of
the preliminary project of a floating residence, evaluating its feasibility along with the results
obtained in the development of both the documentation and the necessary data for the project.
In this way, it can be noted that, although there are still some limitations regarding the
interoperability of the software applied in naval engineering, the BIM methodology allows for
greater speed and precision in the development of the project and its documentation. It
enables the meeting of different design aspects and carrying out changes automatically based
on the associated parameters.
