Resumo
As technology advances in great strides and constantly points to new market guidelines,
companies need to create ways to develop their processes continuously to remain competitive
in the segment in which they operate. This requires companies to look for ways to optimize
their manufacturing processes in order to increase productivity, product quality and constantly
reduce costs to invest in areas that technological advances present to us. Therefore, it is
important to analyze how productive flows can improved to become effective. The present work
aims to present a comparison between two cutting inserts, the first of cubic boron nitride and
the second of alumina-based ceramic in a process of boring the cylinder liner of a motorcycle,
the material of the part to be machine is grey cast iron. The purpose is to evaluate the most
appropriate tool in terms of productivity, costs and that meets the qualities of the processes as
specified, through the monitoring of the service life of the cutting inserts, identifying the
properties of the material to be machine, cutting parameter for tool and roughness of the part.
From this, it will be possible to determine the most viable insert manufacturing material that
meets the specifications of the machining process.
