Resumo
The biotechnology and biosciences industry has gained prominence in Brazil
since the creation of public policies, which coincide with the advent of modern
biotechnology in 1970, requiring a panoramic analysis of the same in order to verify the
direction the industry has taken. taken. Therefore, this study aims to describe the main
characteristics that encompass the Brazilian industry, by analyzing its spatial distribution,
recognizing in which areas they operate and identifying the ways in which the companies
inserted grow and develop. In order to achieve the proposed objectives, the study relies
on the description of quali-quantitative data collected secondarily. Thus, there was a large
concentration of biotechnology and bioscience companies in the Southeast and South
regions that operate mainly in the human health, agribusiness and input sectors. The vast
majority of these companies, in addition to being small, depend on public financing
policies to develop their activities, which are intensely linked to research and
development activities, which is the largest portion of investments in this type of industry.
