Resumo
Economic deregulation of the civil aviation sector in Brazil is a necessary process for improving the
country's competitive environment with direct effects on fare prices, level of competition and the
country's economic growth. The article presents a quantitative analysis based on in the indications
related to the main regulatory changes in the sector, as number of passengers, average air fare and
transported cargo volume, such as the law that creates the ANAC, changes in checked baggage collection
observing trends prior to deregulation and evaluating subsequent data in order to visualize changes in
the trend in the sector. It permeates the theoretical character that surrounds the process of economic
deregulation based on theoretical analyzes, compares the models of deregulation experienced by other
countries in the world, especially those adopted by the United States. The results show that the
deregulation activity in the sector had significant impacts on the reduction of airfares prices, increase in
the number of passengers on interstate trips, as well as the changes in the rules of airline tickets allowed
airlines to discriminate prices of airlines tariffs free of charge to the consumer. The article also concludes
that an individual regulatory change has no significant effect, as in the case of airport slots and that the
main obstacles surround new entry barriers.
