Resumo

Homicide rates in Brazil have increased since the 2000s, and in recent years Amazonas has been in the national spotlight due to its high rate of violence. Thus, this article sought to measure the impacts of socioeconomic variables on crime in Amazonas in the year 2010. Data were obtained from the Homicide Rate - proxy for crime - and data Population; per capita GDP; Poverty; Urbanization Rate; Demographic density; Gini coefficient; Illiteracy Rate and Unemployment Rate for the 62 municipalities in the state. Amazonas state in 2010. To achieve the proposed objective, a multiple linear regression model was used. The results indicated that the main determinants of state crime were: poverty, population, urbanization rate and GDP per capita, and the variables that impact crime in municipalities with higher homicide rates differ from those that impact municipalities with low rates.
