Resumo
The overall intent of this study was to compare public spending with student performance across
states. This is a descriptive research, with a predominantly quantitative approach, based on the
collection of documentary data. The units of analysis worked were the states of Amazonas, Ceará and
São Paulo, within the time frame from 2011 to 2015, after identifying the expenditure per student, this
was related to the performance in IDEB. It was noticeable a great disparity in the values of public
resources applied in each state, which when compared to the unequal results of performance in IDEB
allowed the conclusion that there is no relationship between public expenditure in the public school
system and student performance.
