Resumo
To describe how Directly Observed Treatment of tuberculosis occurs in Primary Health Care according to health professionals. Method: This is an exploratory descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The sample of participants was made up of 57 professionals. An instrument with 39 items was applied, with variables grouped into seven domains. Descriptive analysis was performed to characterize the participants and frequency distribution matrices of responses per item were created. Results: Three physicians, 16 nurses, 21 technicians and 17 CHAs participated in the study, with a mean age of 45.64 (SD=11.22) and length of service of 13.58 (SD=8.82). The results showed differences in the evaluation of the transfer of DOT according to professional category. The CHA category was the one that best evaluated the actions (3.93; SD:0.84) and the medical category was the one that evaluated the worst (3.60; SD:1.19). Regarding length of service, professionals with 6 months to 5 years of experience were those who evaluated the TDO transfer actions least favorably (3.69; SD: 0.65). The domains “Perception of DOT and its contribution to health care and promotion” (mean: 4.06; SD0.68) and “Perception of Strategies to improve DOT” (mean: 4.04; SD0.53) were the domains with the most favorable evaluations, and the domain “Management actions” (mean: 3.60; SD0.87) with the least favorable. Conclusion: It is clear that there is a need to qualify or reconfigure DOT at the study site, since they still present difficulties and challenges to be overcome by the health system.
