Resumo
This research aimed to understand the protagonism of Ribeirinha Women in the daily
life of the Remijo Community, based on the understanding that protagonism is associated with
recognition and active, constructive participation in society. To speak of protagonism is to recall
feminist struggles; in this sense, we draw on Federici (2004), who highlights the movement of
rural women and their emancipatory process in response to the “enclosure” and appropriation
of land through the implementation of capitalism. The author presents a discussion on women’s
struggle for recognition and the valorization of their labor activities. Some authors, such as
Grimm, Estevam e Salvaro (2022), emphasize that rural communities are strongly shaped by
agriculture and the sexual division of labor—characteristics that render women’s social
participation invisible. This scenario also occurs in Ribeirinha communities, where it becomes
necessary to consider their specificities: their particular modes of managing natural resources,
their forms of social organization, and the recognition of the spaces where social identities,
ways of life, culture, and ancestry are constructed and established. In this context, the present
research sought to identify and describe the daily lives of Ribeirinha Women, highlighting their
protagonism in both work and health-related activities. This is a qualitative social research
conducted in the Remijo Community, located on the banks of the Uiaicurapá River, in the rural
area of the municipality of Parintins. The protagonists of this study were women over 18 years
of age who are permanent residents of the community. As a methodological strategy, two
workshops and six semi-structured interviews were conducted with participants who signed the
informed consent form. Data collection took place through fieldwork, which involved four river
journeys to the community, each lasting three days. Research instruments included a semi-
structured interview guide, a field diary, as well as photographic and audio recordings. After
analyzing the collected data, three groups of indicators and one core of meaning were identified,
organized into the following themes: “The way of life and daily routines of women in Remijo”;
“Work in Ribeirinha daily life”; “Health practices”; and “The protagonism of women in
Remijo.” The results indicate a clear protagonism in the daily activities of the women of
Remijo, whose polyvalent labor makes their voices resonate within the community, where they
are valued and recognized. However, this protagonism remains little disseminated in broader
society. Therefore, this research sought to contribute to the expansion of studies in the
Amazonian context, as well as to foster spaces of discussion that (re)acknowledge, highlight,
and value Ribeirinha Women, thereby enabling the creation of strategies to guarantee their
rights, and reinforcing, making visible, and recognizing their protagonism.
