Resumo
This article, entitled "Rivers that Cross Histories: A Cross-Sectional Study of the Social, Ecological, and Mythical Elements in Wilson Nogueira's Work Orphan of the Waters," is set in the context of the Amazon, a territory where the real and the mythical are deeply intertwined, and rivers represent pathways of memory and survival. Wilson Nogueira's work is analyzed for its unique ability to transcend social, ecological, and mythical dimensions, revealing tensions between tradition, identity, and the transformations imposed by human action. The central objective of the research was to understand how the literary text represents and problematizes the complex interactions between the Amazonian imaginary, sociocultural practices, and the region's ecological crises. Methodologically, the study adopted a qualitative and bibliographic approach, relying on the phenomenological method to interpret symbolic experiences and engaging with the assumptions of Ecocriticism, examining the articulation between nature, society and imagination in the work. The essential results showed that Órfão das Águas articulates social, environmental, and symbolic elements to weave a sensitive critique of environmental exploitation, recovering cultural memories and integrating popular and scientific knowledge of the riverside population. The ecocritical perspective highlighted that the Amazon environment is presented not only as a setting but as an affected agent, whose vulnerability is revealed, transcending the fictional plane to reach current ethical issues. It is concluded that the work becomes a space for dialogue, reinforcing the role of literature as a tool for environmental awareness, cultural appreciation, and encouragement of critical thinking about the finiteness of life and ecosystem preservation.
