Resumo

It is necessaire to discuss the spaces and opportunities we have for children to develop their values, beliefs, abilities and skills. In this sense, this work aims to provide a fundamental reflection to those who seek to contribute so that childhood is a favorable moment for a broad and comprehensive development of the child. This is a descriptive, qualitative approach research, whose main theoretical foundations are the works of Polito (2008), Vygotsky (1998) and Sarmento (2001). Therefore, the main objective of this work is to investigate in what proportion the participation in the Children's oratory contest contributes to the formation of speakers in this age group. The survey was conducted with the winner of the last children's oratory contest prepared by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The data collection instrument was a semi-structured interview. The data obtained were analyzed through qualitative analysis. The final results demonstrate that the Church's contributions go beyond the practice of children's oratory and that this goes beyond the aspects of oral expression and the child's intellectual development, becoming an important part of a series of actions considered by the church.
