Resumo
To analyze the experiences of HIV stigmatization among Black transgender women,
understanding how racism, transphobia, and social inequality intertwine in the production of
vulnerabilities and resistances, based on Judith Butler’s theory of gender performativity. Methods:
This is a qualitative study with a cartographic inspiration, grounded in sensitive ethnography and
Braun and Clarke’s thematic analysis. An in-depth narrative interview was conducted with a Black
transgender woman living with HIV in Manaus, complemented by documentary research on public
policies and social discourses. The analysis prioritized identifying resistance practices, metaphors,
and expressions that reveal confrontation and self-reconstruction in the face of stigma. Results: The
narrative revealed layers of exclusion and discrimination linked to HIV, race, and gender identity,
expressed through institutional transphobia, medical negligence, and social marginalization.
However, powerful strategies of resistance and re-signification emerged, such as family reunion,
access to antiretroviral treatment, return to studies, and reconstruction of affective bonds. These
experiences demonstrated that the Black trans body, historically abject and dehumanized, can
become a territory of creation, political power, and affirmation of life. Conclusion: HIV stigma
among Black transgender women results from the intersection of transphobia, racism, and structural
5
inequality, reflecting necropolitical impacts on dissident bodies. Overcoming it requires public
policies and care practices that are anti-racist, anti-transphobic, and sensitive to this population’s
specificities, ensuring dignified healthcare, educational opportunities, and social recognition, while
promoting autonomy, citizenship, and the reduction of inequities.
