Caracterização da atividade pesqueira na Agrovila do Caburi, município de Parintins, Amazonas

Abstract

Fisheries characterization is fundamental to understanding the dynamics of small-scale fishing and supporting public policies for the management and conservation of aquatic resources. The Caburi region has significant ecosystem resources, with highly productive floodplains. This study aimed to characterize fishing activity and outline the socioeconomic profile and environmental perception of artisanal fishermen in the Caburi Agrovillage, in Parintins, Amazonas. Data were collected between July 2025 and April 2026 using structured questionnaires applied to 21 local fishermen. The results showed that 95% of respondents live in their own community, all are male, aged between 23 and 67 years (average 49 years), and most have only incomplete primary education. Family income is low: half receive less than one minimum wage and the other half earn between one and three minimum wages. Fishing is practiced mainly for subsistence (38.1%), followed by a combination of subsistence and commercialization (28.6%), commercial fishing (23.8%), and, to a lesser extent, for leisure. The most commonly used equipment is the gillnet, known as a gillnet, and the most frequently caught fish are tambaqui, pacu, curimatã, jaraqui, and surubim. All fishermen reported a decrease in fish availability, attributing this decline mainly to the severe droughts of 2023 and 2024, local population growth, and increased pressure on natural resources. This study reinforces the importance of management measures, monitoring, and environmental education to ensure the sustainability of the activity and the food security of families that depend on fishing.
