Estudo introdutório e tradução do livro I de Figuris Sententiarum et Elocutionis de Rutílio Lupo

Abstract

This work aims to present an unpublished translation from Latin to Portuguese, from the Book I De figuris sententiarum et elocutionis by Rutilius Lupus, a Latin rétor of 1st century BC. To contextualize the work, we will first bring an introductory study that begins with a discussion about how the figures of language were discussed in Antiquity ,specifically in Aristotle's Rhetoric and Poetic of the 4th century BC, and in the Rhetoric to Herennium of the 1st century BC. Next we will bring an overview of the life and work of Rutilius Lupus, and about the figures of speech presented in Book I of the De figuris sententiarum, particularly about the distinction between figures of speech in which what matters is meaning, position in the sentence, and form. Finally, with the aim of providing a greater knowledge about the elaboration of rhetoric manuals and figures of language in antiquity, and expanding access to this work, we will present the translation of Book I De figuris sententiarum et elocutionis.
