Resumo

With the objective of studying UCA CNT006 - “The Importance of Biogeochemical Cycles for Environmental Preservation” in the new high school curriculum and promoting meaningful learning through a didactic sequence (SD), enabling students to acquire a deep understanding of the theoretical and methodological foundations of Advanced Curriculum Units. Varied methodologies can be very helpful in the classroom because they can address topics that are often difficult for students to understand through traditional classes alone. This research was conducted with 2nd-year high school students at Dom Gino Malvestio Civic-Military State School in this context, the research aimed to investigate students’ prior knowledge to enhance meaningful learning through didactic strategies, offering a more integrated approach to the content using the SD. The methods used for data collection included an initial assessment, dialogic expository lecture, bibliographic research, written assignment 1, practical activity, and written assignment 2. The data generated from the research was analyzed following the standards of qualitative research. Overall, the development of a didactic sequence for the study of UCA CNT006 - the importance of biogeochemical cycles for environmental preservation, which covers the water and carbon cycles integrated with other cycles, proves to be a fundamental pedagogical tool and has been shown to be effective as it significantly contributed to student learning.
