Esporte e modernidade: mulheres e a prática esportiva em Manaus na virada do século XIX – XX.

Abstract

This research report aims to analyze the presence of women in sports in Manaus at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century. It examines their integration into sports clubs in Manaus and explores gender relations between men and women who practiced sports in public spaces, highlighting women's "exit" from the private sphere and their conquest of public space through sports. To this end, we used bibliographic research methodology, investigating excerpts from periodicals of the time as objects of historical research. The report will begin with a brief overview of the collected material regarding the presence of women in sports at the turn of the aforementioned century. Following this, we will analyze the collected materials from periodicals published at the time and briefly discuss the contributions of Perrot (2005), who addresses this movement of women's exit and conquest of public space, and Scott (1999), who contributed to the understanding of the concept of gender. In the final part of this report, an analysis of the periodicals will be addressed, contextualizing the publication period and the discourses of the time.
