Perfil de participação das instituições no basquetebol e basquete 3x3 formativos no município de Manaus

Abstract

Basketball is a uniquely prominent sport within the school and educational context worldwide, both in its traditional format (5x5) and in its reduced version (3x3 basketball). In Manaus, it is developed by clubs, athletic associations, schools, and other entities, but the level of participation of each is not known for certain. Objective: to describe the participation profile of institutions involved in basketball and 3x3 basketball education in the Municipality of Manaus. Methodological procedures: the research is documentary, carried out using official documents issued by the Amazonas Basketball Federation (FEBAM), relating to the Amazonas Basketball Championship and the State 3x3 Basketball Circuit, and by the Government of the State of Amazonas, responsible for the Amazonas School Games (JEA’s). Results: men's basketball (3x3 and 5x5) is more developed in terms of the number of institutions and teams participating in the main championships compared to women's basketball. Basketball schools stand out as the main providers of these modalities, and, regarding school institutions, private schools stand out in basketball and state schools in 3x3 basketball. School institutions, in addition to stimulating the practice through participation in the JEAs (School Games), prove to be important partners with entities of other kinds for participation in other championships. The number of championships and categories in which an institution participates shows a positive relationship with the number of good competitive results, although it does not necessarily represent a pattern. Final Considerations: basketball and formative 3x3 basketball in Manaus has varied institutional representation, but is quite dependent on the private sector, consequently reducing access for children and young people with lower purchasing power, thus hindering its democratization.
