Microbiology has been described as the area of science that addresses organisms with dimensions starting at a micrometer scale that can be visualized only using a microscope. Practical Microbiology classes emerge as a methodological tool capable of offering support to students to understand the abstraction that is seen in theory, since the practice focused on this discipline is of great relevance to the teaching-learning process. Considering that practical classes are fundamental for students' learning, this work aims to understand the importance of practical classes in teaching Microbiology from the perception of students on the Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences. This research is characterized as a study of the following type: qualitative, in terms of approach; descriptive, regarding the objectives and; participant observation, regarding procedures, where to validate the collected data we used triangulation of data collection according to Yin (2016). There were significant results, for the questionnaire its answers were typed, grouped, compared, categorized and identified in the most frequent and relevant ones, in relation to the practical classes applied in the teaching of Microbiology, we obtained a higher percentage of satisfaction as 47% of the students enjoyed the activity practice “Preparing culture medium”, followed by 20% “Sowing bacteria”, 13% “Microbial population dynamics in various environments”, 13% liked all the practices carried out, and with 7% “Testing cleaning products”. Therefore, practical classes in the Microbiology discipline are essential in the academic training, they instigate their cognitive development, since the contents are broad and merely abstract, it facilitates the acquisition of their learning.
