Resumo
This article aimed to understand how the environmental ethos and traditional knowledge of the riverside dwellers of Zé Açu are related to their territorial sustainability. Both qualitative and quantitative research methods were used, including a focus group coordinated by the community to collect information, and a survey to apply forms and interview some residents of the community. The first method was to identify the problems of the community, and then seek to know the possible ways for Zé Açu to achieve its territorial sustainability, from the perspective of several dimensions. Through the research, the interaction between the rural communities and the University was sought, understanding the reality of these communities, as well as the organization of demands regarding the environment, health, education and culture. With this, these demands were taken to the public agencies, so that they can better understand the reality of the rural areas, and subsequently seek alternatives that make their sustainability viable.
