Resumo

It is known that the final four decades of the 20th century marked profound social transformations and critiques of capitalism in the face of inequality and poverty in the world. In this sense, social movements, more specifically in Latin America, gained strength and joined institutions that recognized their struggles. It is in this context that the Catholic Church, renewed in its missionary objective, recognized these popular struggles and offered space so that together they could create fronts of action to mitigate inequalities. Pastoral ministries and the work of lay agents within churches emerged, extending throughout the parishes. In Novo Aripuanã, these activities were concentrated in the Parish of Our Lady of the Conception, which acted as an agent for the dissemination and implementation of pastoral activities. That being said, the objective of this experience report is to describe the steps of an academic research project regarding the actions and movements of the pastoral groups of the Nossa Senhora da Conceição parish in Novo Aripuanã-AM, from the perspective of the pastoral agents who worked there in the 1990s. To this end, the oral history method was used, analyzing the narratives of these agents and revealing the importance of these actions for the municipality and for the lives of the people.
