A cadeia produtiva da pesca esportiva e suas implicações ambientais e socioeconômicas no município de Barcelos-AM

Abstract

This article analyzes the perception of stakeholders in the sport fishing production chain regarding the environmental and socioeconomic impacts of this activity in the municipality of Barcelos, Amazonas, Brazil. Using a qualitative and exploratory approach, semi-structured interviews and non-participant observation were conducted to understand the relevance of sport fishing to the local economy and the challenges faced in ensuring its sustainability. Results indicate that although there is awareness of practices such as “catch and release,” issues such as lack of supervision, river pollution, and limited technical training persist. The study highlights the need for more effective public policies, environmental education initiatives, and the development of alternative economic activities for the local community, particularly outside the fishing season.
