A Catedral de Santa Tereza e sua praça no município de Tefé: aspectos religiosos e de sociabilidade

Abstract

This dissertation conducts a study on the Cathedral of Santa Tereza and its square in the municipality of Tefé. The focus of the analysis lies on the religious and cultural aspects within the scope of popular religiosity, in the context of this municipality. It refers to an interdisciplinary approach woven by an interlocution with Sociology, Anthropology, Geography, History and Philosophy, in addition to field experiences and narratives, literary documents and on-site observation. In Dioceses around the world, cathedrals represent a sacred value for Catholics, consisting of a place of meeting and faith, where the faithful gather for special celebrations, demonstrating fervor and religiosity, while squares are meeting places, relaxation, leisure and sociability among its visitors, regardless of religious creed. We believe that in these places, where religious festivities and socio-cultural events are held, and where spaces for coexistence and fraternity are built, sociability is culturally concretized. The methodology used in this study follows a qualitative approach, using the orality technique, bringing together the collaborators' narratives, complemented by secondary sources, present in the archives of the São José Apostolic Seminary (Prelacy of Tefé), and in the Casa dos Espiritanos do Divino Holy Spirit. We also used photographs, magazines, periodicals, videos, newspapers, which address the theme of this study. We found in this research that religiosity is an essential element, as a form of expression of Tefeense popular culture, being an important link for sociability and the preservation and maintenance of the local cultural, material and immaterial heritage. The square of the Cathedral of Santa Tereza, is a locus of Catholic and non-Catholic popular traditions, where the Feast of Santa Teresa also takes place, which once transcended the limits of Tefeense territory in fame, for its traditionality, but which has currently lost much in participation. popular, due to the new social context. Another important socio-cultural event is the Folkloric Festival, which in its heyday of cultural beauty, took place on the festive platform in the space of the square of the Cathedral of Santa Tereza, but which also nowadays has lost, in a way, its shine, no longer taking place in the city. same. Thus, the study presents elements that indicate that the square and the cathedral constitute points of memory and historical-cultural identity of the municipality of Tefé.
