Abstract

The present study aims to report the preference for fish consumption by the academic community of the Centro de Estudos Superiores de Parintins (CESP), Universidade do Estado do Amazonas (UEA). To this end, questionnaires were randomly administered to 100 students from various CESP courses. The profile of the interviewees indicates that they are young, low-income and living in peripheral neighborhoods generally close to the university and fish trading points in the city. cite chicken as the main source of animal protein, followed by fish, beef and processed meats. They purchase the fish directly from the fisherman, usually a relative, with the preferred type being tambaqui or scale fish. Factors such as quality, price and availability influence the consumption and preference of fish by academics. The results presented here can be used in future work.
