Resumo
Explaining the origin and evolution of life on Earth constituted a paradigm with insufficient answers to a complex question. There were several currents of thought and the most accepted theory in the scientific community was proposed by Charles Darwin, initiating the Evolutionary Biology. Thus, this article sought to characterize the conceptions about biological evolution of students entering in the course Licenciatura em Ciências Biológicas, Centro de Estudos Superiores de Parintins, Universidade do Estado do Amazonas. Quali-quantitative in nature, an online questionnaire with structured questions through Google Forms was prepared and applied in September 2022. The research subjects correspond to students entering the 1st period of the course. In the opinions expressed, the existence of difficulty in understanding evolutionary concepts and processes within the high school classroom is remarkable. The influencing factors are religion, personal beliefs and the lack of knowledge of teachers responsible for teaching the topic in basic education. Most of the interviewees assumed that they believe in a divine being and that he created the current beings. In view of this, it is clear that the theme of biological evolution has to be discussed more in regular education, regardless of belief or religion. With this in mind, it is necessary to think about teaching in an interdisciplinary way where the contents of biology can be discussed in classes with history, geography, religious education, philosophy and so on. It should be considered a historical and cultural of the community in which we live, thus enabling a study that promotes interest in individuals. The result of this research is a contribution to future academics who are interested in this evolutionary discussion.
