Resumo
It is estimated that in Brazil, 15% of diagnosed pregnancies are classified as
high-risk. Prenatal care is a strategy with the potential to minimize unfavorable outcomes for
both the mother and the fetus. Dental care is part of prenatal care and gains importance in cases
of high-risk pregnancies. Despite this, adherence to dental care during pregnancy is hindered
by the lack of knowledge and insecurity of the multidisciplinary primary healthcare team in
prescribing care. Objective: To develop an online, self-instructional awareness course on the
importance of dental care in the prenatal care of high-risk pregnant women, aimed at dentists,
nurses and physicians, working in primary healthcare in the city of Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil.
Method: This is a technical production study to develop a short-duration course in the distance
learning, online, and self-instructional format. The ADDIE model was used, executed in three
steps. In the first step, a narrative literature review was conducted on the factors that limit
pregnant women’s access to and demand for dental care during prenatal care. In the second
step, the learning objectives, content definition, and identification of elements that promote
learning were established. In the third step, tools were structured, teaching-learning resources
were organized, and procedures were determined for task clarity and goal achievement.
Results: In Step 1, 2.696 publications were identified, of which 205 were included and used for
the development of educational content. From the analysis of the publications, five themes
emerged, based on which the objective was defined. In Step 2, the emerging themes were
organized into a content matrix in five learning units, each with its own composition (objectives,
content, and assessment activity). The course’s student progression was chosen to be linear,
with the learning units organized sequentially by the complexity level of the topic. In Step 3,
pedagogical devices were produced, and the course was structured on the Moodle platform.
Technical Product: The course “High-Risk Prenatal: Dental Care” is self-instructional in the
distance learning format, structured on the Moodle platform, and available in the Virtual
Learning Environment. The course consists of five learning units and has a total duration of
eight hours. Conclusions: The developed product has the potential to be used in Permanent
Health Education actions with dentists, nurses, and physicians working in prenatal care in the
city of Manaus, Amazonas. This Master's Dissertation is the result of the Professional Master's
Program in Family Health (PROFSAÚDE).
