Resumo

This work presents the analysis of a research carried out in a School of Audio Communication in the municipality of Parintins-Amazonas, whose general objective is to: Investigate how the Portuguese language is inserted in the literacy of the Deaf student in the first year of elementary school and consequently as specific objectives : To support the concept of the Portuguese language as a process of interaction; To characterize the sign language teaching process for deaf students and to understand the aspects of teaching practice related to the teaching of Portuguese Language and Libras for deaf students. The research is anchored in the current Brazilian legislation under Law nº 10.436/02 for the education of the deaf and in the notes of researchers in the area, some of them Pereira (2014), Soares (2018), Santana (2007), Quadros (2006), Salles (2004) among others, who from their publications contributed to the construction of this research. The research methodology used observation procedures with teachers and students in the special room for the deaf available at the school. Data analysis was performed from a qualitative perspective. The results showed that the school, in turn, is not only concerned with teaching deaf students to read and write, but offers conditions for them to become readers and writers, not just encoders and decoders of graphic symbols, relying less on the oral/writing relationship, and yes, in the visual aspect of writing as a relevant factor in the process of its acquisition. In this way, we will have deaf people literate in both languages, knowledgeable about their culture, as well as the hearing culture, thus favoring the full development of these subjects, and their participation in society, exercising their role as citizens.
