Economia gomífera e sua contribuição para o surgimento do município de Ipixuna-Am

Abstract

This article will present the creation of the municipality of Ipixuna-AM as a result of the rubber economy. The objective of this work is to describe the history of the founding of the municipality of Ipixuna-AM based on the rubber economy. A bibliographic analysis will be carried out on the rubber economy and the migration of Northeasterners to the northern region of Brazil, seeking traces of the rubber economy in the municipality of Ipixuna, and investigating whether the residents of Ipixuna were rubber tappers descended from Northeasterners. The methodology used for this work was a qualitative approach, bibliographic analysis, and interviews with four long-time residents of Ipixuna. The results obtained from the bibliographic analysis made it possible to identify that, through the rubber economy, the state of Amazonas received a large influx of Northeastern immigrants, which enabled the creation of new rubber plantations in the region for rubber extraction. According to oral sources, it was identified that the residents of Ipixuna were mostly rubber tappers descended from Northeasterners, but after its creation, the residents stopped working with rubber. Therefore, it was concluded that the rubber economy and the migration of people from the Northeast made the creation of the municipality of Ipixuna possible.
