Resumo
This work aims to verify the situation of the illustrative dance in school education, starting from the problematic that this dance, which is present in formal school only as a diversion, and with shallow purposes, can become emancipatory in this scope, becoming an integrant part of the educational process. Considering this, the research was developed at the Lea Alencar Antony Municipal School, with students of the Elementary School I, 5th grade class, with 24 students from 10 to 13 years old. The research had as a theoretical reference reflections about the position in which dance is in school, how fun can give place to a new thought, that of dance as an area of knowledge. The research has a qualitative approach, as for the purposes it was an action research, being a field research that used participant observation. Therefore, it was concluded that the teaching of dance at school is full of weaknesses, the illustrative dance in fact occupies a disproportionate space in this environment. There is no guaranteed space for dance or even artistic practices, however, during the process of the classes, it was noticed that when autonomy is given, when interdisciplinarity happens, the learning process of the student with dance becomes effective, this way taking dance away from illustration and emancipating it to the understanding of it as an area of knowledge.
