Resumo
In the motorcycle industry, painting plays an important role, responsible for enhancing the motorcycle's appearance and adding value to the final product. The main objective of this study is to analyze the process of liquid paint application on plastic motorcycle parts, with an emphasis on identifying factors that contribute to the high paint consumption and proposing improvements to reduce this waste. The study was conducted at a factory in Manaus that specializes in painting plastic motorcycle parts. The methodology used was a case study, which included the collection and analysis of painting parameters such as paint viscosity, booth temperature, and air pressure in the spray guns. The results indicated that, although the application parameters are within specifications, most of the applied paint does not adhere to the part, due to the use of compressed air in the paint atomization, which results in inefficiency in the spraying process and leads to paint waste. To address this issue, the study suggests implementing an innovative technology, the Kromavis system, which uses nitrogen instead of compressed air. The adoption of this technology was analyzed through benchmarking with factories in other countries, such as France, which have already implemented the system and observed a reduction of up to 40% in paint consumption. The use of Kromavis offers advantages such as reduced paint waste, improved paint quality, and greater precision in paint application. The cost analysis indicated that implementing this technology result in a significant reduction in paint costs, with a return on investment in less than a year. Thus, the study concludes that replacing compressed air with nitrogen is a viable and efficient solution to reduce paint consumption, optimize the production process, and minimize environmental impacts, while also improving the quality of the painted parts' finish.
