Suzana e Helena de Figueiredo: imagens e trajetória musical (1895 a 1920)

Abstract

This article redeems part of the artistical memory of Suzana and Helena de Figueiredo, twin sisters, that were brazilian pianists of high thecnical level and made huge cultural and pedagogical contributions to the country. Alongside their younger sister, Sylvia de Figueiredo, and their profissional colleague Celina Roxo, they created and directed the Escola de Música Figueiredo-Roxo (Music School), fundamental core to the Escola de Música Villa-Lobos (Music School) in Rio de Janeiro. Results gathered about the life of Figueiredo Sisters will be presented, specifically Suzana and Helena, in the period of 1895 to 1920s, bringing to the surface the publications in newspapers with information about their concerts musics, type of repertory executed, frquency of concerts, academic background and images of the musicians, a picture made by Silvio Bevilacqua, and a painting were the twins appear, made by Aurélio de Figueiredo, father of the Figueiredo sisters.
