Resumo

This work, entitled "Urban Backyards: Places of (Re)production of Socio-environmental Relations and Knowledge," presents a discussion about backyard cultivation in the Pascoal Alaggio neighborhood. The practice of backyard cultivation in urban areas has gained prominence given its socio-environmental importance. These are spaces intended for the cultivation of various species of animals and plants, which together create a very viable configuration for the families who cultivate them. These environments provide food such as eggs, fruits, and vegetables, in addition to contributing to the microclimate and the family economy. This activity allows much knowledge to be produced and reproduced in the backyard spaces among the members of the families who live there daily. In this sense, the work aimed to understand how urban backyards are produced and organized and their socio-environmental importance for the families of the Pascoal Alaggio neighborhood/Parintins-AM. A qualitative approach was used with field research, observation, and interviews with 8 families. To facilitate reflections on the subject, we sought theoretical support in FRAXE (2011); NODA (2007); CARNEIRO (2013); This study shows the diversity of backyards based on their importance in food, economy, well-being and in the reproduction of knowledge passed down from generation to generation.
