Resumo

This paper presents a technical study on the readjustment of the ventilation system in a motorcycle assembly plant located in the Manaus Industrial Complex, a region characterized by high temperatures and relative humidity, factors that pose significant challenges to thermal comfort in industrial environments. The main objective of the research was to analyze the inefficiencies of the existing ventilation system, identify the causes of thermal and acoustic discomfort reported by employees, and propose solutions that optimize the ergonomics, production performance, and energy efficiency of the manufacturing plant. The method adopted was a case study with an explanatory approach, based on technical inspections, environmental measurements (temperature, humidity, and noise), analysis of the industrial layout, and assessment of energy consumption. Initially, the system composed of axial fans presented positioning failures, conflicting flow orientation, and lack of exhaust, which caused the formation of hot air pockets, raising the temperature and noise levels, exceeding the limits of regulatory standards. By replacing the system with two air-conditioned ventilation units, the system was able to maintain temperatures and noise levels within the standards. Despite the increase in annual energy consumption, the new system eliminated the need to pay health and safety premiums, resulting in annual savings. It was concluded that the readjustment of the ventilation system provided significant gains in occupational health, operational efficiency and business savings, and is recommended for industries in similar climate conditions.
