Preconceito linguístico: um estudo sociolinguístico no bairro de Paulo Corrêa

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze linguistic prejudice on the streets of Parintins, specifically in one neighborhood, Paulo Corrêa. Furthermore, this research considered social and linguistic aspects to understand how the phenomenon of linguistic prejudice is embedded in Parintins society, especially in the Paulo Corrêa neighborhood. The study presented the results of research on linguistic prejudice in the Paulo Corrêa neighborhood. The methodology of this research is quantitative, and besides being a case study, it is also fieldwork-based, drawing on theoretical and methodological procedures from sociolinguistics. Data collection for this study was through a questionnaire containing 11 yes-or-no questions. The study included 31 informants, both women and men, aged between 17 and 60. The study was motivated by the curiosity to reflect on linguistic prejudice within Parintins, as well as by the attempt to understand how prejudice exists within daily life in Parintins, especially within the Paulo Corrêa neighborhood. Furthermore, the research sought to contribute academically, as the literature offers little or no studies focused on linguistic prejudice outside of the school environment. Thus, to compose this research, studies by Bagno (2007), Coelho et al. (2010), Andrade et al. (2012), and Calvet (2002), among others, were used.
