Relato de experiência: o óleo essencial e sua influência no desenvolvimento regional de Novo Aripuanã

Abstract

This historical research experience report details the regional development of the municipality of Novo Aripuanã following the installation of plants for the extraction of essential rosewood oil, through the oral history of community members and former employees of the plants that operated between 1950 and 1970. Using semi-structured interviews and analysis of photographic and documentary archives from the period, the work reconstructs the experience of the workers and the impact of this activity on society. The accounts indicate that the linalool distilleries brought employment opportunities, improved the city's basic infrastructure, and boosted commerce in the region, but also imposed challenges such as economic dependence and environmental impact. In addition, the research reveals the production chain and the jobs. By reflecting on the effects of this economic cycle, the study contributes to the understanding of the relationships between the exploitation of natural resources and regional development.
