Resumo

This study considers Milton Hatoum's fictional literature as a source for thinking about and being part of the history of indigenous women in the Amazon, based on the characters Dinaura and Florita, represented through the imagination of the aforementioned Amazonian writer. To develop our historical analysis, we used the evidentiary method, relating to the contributions, essentially, of historian Carlo Ginzburg. It is known that indigenous women have been in History, but have long been left out of Historiography. In view of this problem, we analyzed the possible dialogues, regarding the indigenous issue, between literary narratives and historical and historiographical narrative. Thus, we started from the representations about indigenous women/characters, indicated above, with the perspective of drawing certain comparisons with historical and/or historiographical records, which elucidate the historical trajectory of indigenous women in the Amazon. Our time frame covers the years 1890-1945. In the context of this delimitation, we intend to point out some limitations of the Official Historiography, which, when it elucidates the female and indigenous figure, mainly through perspectives characterized by misogyny, is therefore committed to the annulment of these women in the History of the Amazon. We realize that the creative writing of Milton Hatoum, through Órfãos do Eldorado, opens up ways for us to address a history of gender in the Amazon. Thus, the research we propose here sparks debates on the importance and presence of indigenous women throughout the History of the Amazon.
