Raiva e ações de vigilância em saúde no município de Tabatinga

Abstract

To present the main prevention, prophylaxis, and control measures for rabies in the municipality of Tabatinga, based on documentary research on actions developed by the Municipal Health Department/Municipal Zoonosis Management and bibliographical research. Rabies is a lethal disease once it affects the central nervous system. Therefore, prevention and prophylaxis measures are implemented to prevent cases of rabies in humans and animals. Health surveillance measures within the zoonosis area aim to identify any zoonotic disease early. The surveillance plan establishes investigative measures to verify the circulation of the rabies virus within the municipality and riverside communities. These measures include sending laboratory samples to maintain laboratory surveillance. In urban areas, brain samples are collected from dead dogs and cats, while in rural areas, hematophagous bats are collected. The study presented the measures implemented and offered by the health department as zoonosis management, and the procedures implemented to prevent the emergence of rabies have been effective, as there have been no reported or laboratory-confirmed cases within the system. Health surveillance, when applied preventively, plays a crucial role in maintaining the health of the population.
