Resumo
To evaluate the eating habits of schoolchildren with an emphasis on the
presence of regional foods and the use of screens during meals. METHOD: This is a
quantitative field study, of a transversal and descriptive nature, being an excerpt from the object
of study of a research project, carried out in a full-time school in Manaus. The study involved
151 children enrolled at the institution from October to November 2024. Data collection was
carried out through the application of an evaluation form emphasizing regional Amazonian
cuisine. The data obtained was organized and analyzed using Microsoft Excel and Stata version
14 software. RESULTS: Among the students interviewed, the majority were female. Most
students have an infrequent intake of regional foods and reported having at least one meal in
front of screens, with television being more prevalent. CONCLUSION: Amazonas is going
through a food transition with a focus on processed foods, reduced consumption of regional
foods and prevalent use of screens during meals, which leads to an increased risk for the
development of long-term chronic problems for children if there is no timely intervention for
lifestyle changes.
