Conhecimento dos acadêmicos de enfermagem sobre acidentes por animais peçonhentos em uma universidade pública do Amazonas

Abstract

To assess the knowledge of nursing students before and after offering the course Special Topics of Accidents by Venomous Animals at the School of Health Sciences of the State University of Amazonas. Method: A quantitative, observational, cross-sectional study with a sample of 60 students enrolled in the course "Special Topics of Accidents by Venomous Animals." A semi-structured questionnaire was used to assess knowledge in two stages: pre- and post-intervention; the variables included correct answers, errors, and lack of knowledge. Classes were conducted using methodologies such as mind maps and discussions of clinical cases. Results: Data analysis was performed using Excel 2020. The pre-assessment indicated 44% correct answers, 34% errors, and 22% lack of knowledge, revealing deficiencies in the topics of "Antivenom management," "Conduct in the face of complications," and "Immediate care." After the intervention, the correct answer rate increased to 85%, while errors and lack of knowledge decreased to 13% and 2%, respectively. Conclusion: The optional discipline resulted in a significant improvement in the students' knowledge about accidents caused by venomous animals, demonstrating the effectiveness of educational interventions based on specific protocols to improve the training of health professionals in areas of high incidence.
