Resumo
Population aging in Brazil is a reality that presents significant challenges, especially for elderly women who face issues related to quality of life, autonomy, and social inclusion. This descriptive and qualitative study investigated how dance practice impacts the lives of women aged 60 and over who participate in the Educar para Envelhecer project in Manaus. Data collection included semi-structured interviews and focus groups, exploring these women's experiences and perceptions of dance. The data were analyzed using Content Analysis, which identified patterns and categories related to physical, emotional, and social aspects. The results revealed that dance practice enhances participants' autonomy, increases independence in daily activities, and strengthens social bonds, fostering a greater sense of belonging. Additionally, dance contributed to the recovery of bodily memories, improved balance and motor coordination, and brought emotional benefits such as increased self-esteem and joy. This study highlights the importance of public policies encouraging cultural activities for elderly people, demonstrating how dance can effectively promote active, healthy, and socially integrated aging.
