Uso de remédios caseiros no enfrentamento a Covid-19: relato de idosos rurais e ribeirinhos

Abstract

To describe the experience of using home remedies as a way of coping with COVID-19 among elderly people living in rural and riverside communities. Method: this is a descriptive qualitative study on the use of home remedies among rural and riverside elderly people during the COVID-19 pandemic. The participants were elderly people aged 60 or over, constituting a sample in two groups totaling 14 participants of both sexes. Data collection was through Focus Group, carried out in two meetings per group and using the Content Analysis technique. Results: The distance between rural and riverside communities from urban centers results in the isolation of these areas, making access to healthcare limited. Therefore, the use of home remedies by these populations was a more accessible alternative, during the pandemic, for the treatment of COVID-19. In this research, some home remedies were presented, including leaves, roots, and others, with the most cited being jambu, garlic, lemon, and mastruz. Conclusion: This study had the possibility of contributing to the increase in knowledge of home remedies, and highlighting the need for new research in the area, since the medicinal plants surveyed have pharmacological potential, but studies on the subject are limited and there is no scientific proof of most of the products used, requiring more research.
