Resumo
Bovine slaughterhouses generate large amounts of solid waste, and when handled incorrectly they can cause environmental and health problems in the absence of planning and treatment of waste before it is dumped into the environment. Based on this, the objective was to carry out a management diagnosis regarding the destination of solid waste and effluents through the activities developed in the municipal slaughterhouse of Parintins, Am. The study was developed from field research and technical visits carried out at the Municipal Slaughterhouse Ozório Melo, also using the documentary and bibliographic survey method. After the treatment process, the effluents are dumped into the Amazon River. The waste that is not donated, mainly the condemned material, is sent to the municipal landfill, noting that the condemned waste is disposed of in a preliminary treatment in an autoclave and later the tailings with common characteristics, free of pathogens, are directed to the landfill municipal. In addition, the studied slaughterhouse's PGRSI highlights the implementation of an Environmental Education Program whose essential component for the improvement of the enterprise is environmental education. In general, the slaughterhouse is making progress with its improvements, as a large part of the organic waste generated is being donated to a fertilizer company, thus reducing the environmental impacts it would cause if it were to be sent to the municipal landfill.
