Resumo

One of the main causes of human mortality worldwide is enteroparasitosis, with a higher prevalence observed in developing countries. Intestinal parasites represent a significant public health challenge worldwide. Prevalence studies are necessary not only to measure the problem of high mortality rates associated with these parasites, but also to generate data for planning government actions. This research was designed to carry out an epidemiological survey of intestinal parasites diagnosed at the Padre Vitório Polyclinic in Parintins-Am, from April 2023 to April 2024, mapping the prevalence of these infections in the population of that municipality. Furthermore, this study focused on identifying the main intestinal parasites present, analyzing infection patterns in different groups and investigating possible risk factors associated with their transmission. Of 2,872 cases evaluated at the polyclinic, approximately 35.6% (1,023) were positive for some parasitic disease. Regarding the sex of the patients, it was concluded that approximately 1,700 is the index number for the female public, that is, 59% have a predominance of exams carried out while around 1172 are related to the male sex, that is, approximately 41%. It was observed that the positivity for some parasitosis was 55% in the female public, that is, 567, while for the male public this value was 45%, that is, 456. Regarding enteroparasitoses, commensal protozoa such as the following species were recorded: Entamoeba coli, Endolimax nana, Iodamoeba butschili and Chilomastix mesnili. In turn, the parasitic forms: Entamoeba histolytica and Giardia lamblia. It should be noted that commensal protozoa are not pathogenic, but their identification is important, as it can be an indication of socioeconomic, environmental and sanitary conditions. In addition, helminth species were also recorded: Ascaris lumbricoides, Enterobius vermiculares, Hymenolepis nana, Strongyloides stercolaris, larvae and eggs of Ancylostomid sp.
