Abstract

Did you know that a city's PUBLIC LIBRARY is the responsibility of the municipal power? But in Presidente Figueiredo there is no public policy specifically focused on the book, reading, with a plan, proposals and actions of not even a Municipal Culture Law for this area. THE PUBLIC LIBRARY PROFESSOR RUI SOUTO DE ALENCAR was officially opened in 2008, having received as a donation from the National Library its collection and your furniture (bookcase, tables and books). Between 2009 and 2010, it had an average of visitation of around 1500 people. In the period from 2010 to 2018, however, it had the presence of an audience of 400 people and last year it received only 300 although the population of Presidente Figueiredo grows every year and the municipality be an international tourist attraction. Have you ever been there? The PUBLIC LIBRARY works from Monday to Friday, from 7am to 1pm. O service is under the responsibility of technicians who have been awarded by the City Hall without training in the area of ​​books, reading and literature. The environment is not attractive for the entrance of population, without identification plate and access signs. Without an invitation to entrance, it ceases to be a space aimed at providing services to the community, with information, entertainment and training, leisure area, study and creation. If it was okay care, it would become a living space for the whole community, as Parque Libraries provide, with a very current concept of public library. Although it is the responsibility of the municipal authorities, the library has the support from the state government, being dependent on actions such as the “Mania de Ler” project which inserts the library in the annual reading activities calendar of the Secretariat of Culture of the State of Amazonas. So, instead of showing purposeful action, engaged with the community that attends, the PROFESSOR RUI PUBLIC LIBRARY SOUTO DE ALENCAR receives activities from another municipality that centralizes the promotion of literature.
