Conscientização contra a violência gerontológica: Intervenção docente para alunos do ensino médio em Careiro-Am

Abstract

This experience report seeks to explore the emergence and development of Careiro da Várzea, an Amazonian municipality on the banks of the Solimões River, between 1938 and 1955. The aim is to reflect on the social, economic, and cultural processes that shaped the city, highlighting the challenges and adaptations of its inhabitants in a floodplain environment. Therefore, a qualitative methodology was adopted, based on the analysis of historical documents, interviews with long-time residents, and analysis of visual records. The results reflect an occupation pattern marked by its integration with the natural environment, where urbanization was strongly intertwined with fishing and floodplain agriculture. Visible influences, such as national development policies, impacted the city's growth, but the limitations imposed by geography and the lack of infrastructure resulted in socioeconomic and social difficulties. It is concluded that Careiro da Várzea presents challenging urbanization and adaptation experiences for its people in the Amazon, highlighting the importance of local memory and identity. The study argues for the need for public policies that value sustainable development and the cultural preservation of riverside communities.
