Resumo
The cultivation of vegetables in urban backyards in recent years has increased considerably, mainly in inland unicipalities, where most of the population descends from rural producers, inheriting the culture of growing their own food, as a way of collaborating with healthy eating, income supplementation, among other purposes, all this in a that does not harm the environment and they do not deforest, burn or commit any aggression to the environment, to put into practice the cultivation of their vegetables, since they are planted in their backyards. Therefore, this research is necessary to demonstrate the importance of vegetables grown in backyards for both man and the environment. The methodology of this work involved interviews for data collection, carried out with 10 residents of the Cosama neighborhood. As main results we identified nine families, 11 genders nd 13 species of vegetables grown in backyards. The vegetables most cited by residents were Chives that were found in every backyard followed by hot peppers found in seven of the 10 backyards visited, followed closely by chicoia, cabbage and coriander grown in five quintals and hot pepper in four the others were found in only one or two backyards. It is concluded that the cultivation of vegetables at home, in addition to not harming the environment, is also a way of saving for families, as they will have a healthy diet with low cost.
