Margarida Campos: Um olhar sobre a Enferma gem Amazonense nas perspectivas Sociais, Pública e ideológica

Abstract

The objective of this research was to understand the trajectory of Margarida Campos and her involvement in the Nursing School in Manaus. The method used was Life and Thematic Oral History, with a biographical approach in which Margarida Campos is the central figure. The narratives were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed through an analytical and interpretative lens, based on Halbwachs, Bosi, and Bourdieu, relating individual and collective memory. Triangulation included document analysis and searches in scientific databases, enabling a deeper understanding of the trajectory of Amazonian nursing within its historical and institutional context. The results show that the Manaus Nursing School emerged in a scenario of sanitary reorganization driven by the Special Public Health Service, reflecting the influence of the Washington Agreements and the North American model of health education. The memories of Margarida Campos highlight an education grounded in discipline and practice— characteristics that shaped the profile of the first nurses trained in Amazonas. Over time, nursing in the region evolved, incorporating a more critical, scientific, and socially committed approach aligned with the local realities. This study reaffirms the importance of understanding the creation and consolidation of the Nursing School in Manaus as part of a broader historical movement marked by the direct influence of SESP and the effects of the Washington Agreements during the post-war period. The School represented the beginning of a new phase in nursing education and practice in the Amazon, built upon values of discipline, morality, efficiency, and institutional obedience.
