Meio ambiente e educação: escolas ribeirinhas no interior e entorno da reserva biológica do Abufari, no município de Tapauá-AM

Abstract

Dissertation (Master in Education) – State University of Amazonas, Manaus, 2023. This work analyzed how the environmental issue is approached in schools, in a Federal Conservation Unit and its surroundings. It was based on qualitative research, within the unfolding of a case study, using the procedures contained in bibliographical, documental and field research. Most of the data discussed and analyzed originated from focal semi-structured interviews with teachers, students and managers (from the Municipal Department of Education and an ICMBio manager). Data analysis was performed using the content analysis method. Before discussing the environmental theme and the association between the school and Conservation Unit, we describe how a riverside school is characterized, we discuss the conception of environment and environmental education of teachers and students in the research area, we carry out a survey about how the proposed normative documents address environmental education and, finally, we propose a discussion regarding the environmental education work carried out by schools. Our data showed that, so far, riverside schools have no link with the Conservation Unit, a fact arising from a local problematic situation that ends up reaching an entire environmental dimension. We also found that the work that schools develop in this regard is not based on critical environmental education and has no association with the Conservation Unit. Finally, we believe that it is necessary to continue debating environmental education in various contexts, but, above all, it is important that these discussions materialize in attitudes that benefit both the environment and the populations that are part of it.
